Spotting scopes fall into two camps. Some look great on a shelf. Others survive a rainy elk hunt at 9,000 feet. The Leupold SX2 Alpine HD sits firmly in the second camp, and that is why it keeps showing up in truck beds, range bags, and backpacks year after year. This review covers the real…
Most spotting scopes ask you to pick a side. You either get portability or you get power. The Celestron C5 refuses to play that game. It packs a five inch mirror into a tube shorter than a loaf of bread, and it has been quietly doing this since the late 1970s. I spent weeks with…
The Pentax PF-80ED has quietly outlasted most of its rivals. It launched years ago, yet birders, target shooters, and backyard astronomers still hunt for used and new copies in 2026. That says something. Most optics fade after a few product cycles. This one built a cult following instead. So the real question is simple. Does…
Spotting scopes create a strange problem for shooters and birders. You either spend under $200 and squint at a blurry mess, or you spend $900 and explain the credit card statement to someone. The Konus 80, sold as the Konuspot 80 (model 7120), has lived in that awkward middle space for nearly two decades. It…
Most spotting scopes stop at 60x. The Yukon 6-100×100 keeps going all the way to 100x, and it does that with a clever trick most shooters have never seen before. Two objective lenses live inside one body. You flip a switch and the light path jumps from a small 25mm lens to a huge 100mm…
Buying your first spotting scope feels like a gamble. You want to see bullet holes at 200 yards without spending half a paycheck. The Firefield 20-60x60SE keeps showing up in that search, usually under $120, usually with a tripod and case thrown in. That price makes people suspicious, and honestly, it should. I spent several…
Long range viewing gear used to cost a small fortune. Today you can grab a 60mm zoom spotter for less than the price of a decent pair of boots. The Simmons 20-60×60 sits right in that budget zone, and shooters keep asking the same thing: does cheap glass still show bullet holes at 200 yards?…
The Celestron 52268 C90 Mak is one of those odd little optics that refuses to die. It launched in the mid 2000s, it looks like a stubby black thermos, and people still buy it every single year. That says something. Most spotting scopes in this price bracket are zoom refractors with 60mm to 80mm front…
Spotting scopes sit in an awkward price gap. Cheap ones show mush at high power. Premium ones cost more than a used car payment. The Hawke Nature Trek family tries to land in the middle, and it has quietly built a loyal following among birders, target shooters, and backcountry hunters. I spent time with this…
You want a spotting scope that shows real feather detail at 600 yards. You also want to keep your savings account intact. The Celestron Regal M2 series sits right in that middle ground, and it has stayed popular for more than a decade. Birders use it. Long range shooters use it. Backyard astronomers sneak it…
